Picures     Report

tire

Don't you feel safe now?
Either Eric is so wild a driver or the roads are in such bad shape that we just knock tires off the cars.

Performing the mime in the first school of the day where Sarah P's Tica attended.
Their class was five hours long.  Needless to say, we didn't stay for all of it.

By putting Lynn alone, I can group Matt and Matt and Sarah and Sarah.  Fun times.

Costa Rica Day 6 – July 25, 2007

Hey peeps, what's up?

I have definitely been using this phrase quite often this week. I have been teaching common slang words used in English during the classes we have visited. When I teach the slang words, I first tell the Ticos the words in English and later use a Spanish word which means the same thing as it does in English.

Anyways, I should probably tell you about today.  My day personally started with a cold shower.  Later, we (the group) went to my Tica's high school.  At the highschool we were only able to teach one class.  We left her school and went to Matt Yager's tico's school.  We arrived too early, so we went to a mall just to chill.  Then, we went back to the high school and we were allowed to teach two classes.

After we were done, we went to lunch.  We next went to another mall (AKA my 8th time to a mall) to debrief as a group.  Oh, by the way, I have been to the mall almost everyday on this trip.  It is almost like my life here, but not in the states.  We left the mall and went back to the church to be picked up by our Ticos. My Tica brought me back to the house and showed me this really pretty bracelet.  She told me it was a gift from one of the individuals in her class.  The individual was a guy I had talked to earlier in the day.  She also informed me her classmate is coming to the outreach and how he was touched by what I talked to him about (God).

Later in the day, we went back to the church to plan the outreach.  The last thing my family and I did was go to the mall after the planning.  We had dinner at the mall.  The restaurant was really fancy and is where my Tico father works.  The food was delicious and entertainment (live music) was excellent.  Finally, I would like to thank all of you for the prayers and support.

Peace out,
Sarah C. Pettigrew

We started off the day going to church at 6:30 in the morning, which turned out to be difficult because Eric picks me up in the morning and is generally late. We went first to Maria's (Sarah Pettigrew's Tica) school. We did one presentation and got to split off individually with people, which was cool to be able to talk to students one on one and invite them to the outreach on Saturday.

Then we traveled to Roger's (Matt Yager's tico) school, who goes to the same school as Natanael, Issac and Melaney, which was wonderful! We did the presentation three more times and I had another awkward moment when two girls that I was talking to asked me to sing (again) and I sung in front of the class.

Anyways, it was a successful day in the classrooms, and we left happy (especially me because I saw Melaney and Nata!) :).

We went for debriefing at the mall, which was loud so it was kind of hard to hear each other. We had the "hot seat" and had everyone go around and talk about how they stepped out of their comfort zone. That proved to be rather difficult for me considering that I don't really have a comfort zone! Thanks, mom. J/K

After we debriefed Kristi and I went shopping with Eric for stuff for the outreach and got to talk for a while, which was wonderful because I love them both so much!

Training was rather long after shopping because we had to drill the mime and had to add a new person and help people who had missed the last practice. So I was running around like a crazy person (not that that's not normal) trying to make sure everything was going smoothly. Luckily for us (and Eric) Sam, Andres, and Elias showed up and were able to help translate so everything went much quicker. By the end of training, the Ticos basically had the whole mime done which was a miracle!

We finished the meeting with prayer and a bunch of us went back to my house for a fiesta! I had an awesome time just playing with grocery carts and catching up with Elias and Andres who I haven't seen in forever. Then Raquel (my tica I hosted in February) was at the house waiting for me when I got there, which made my entire week!!!! By the way, she sends her love to my family. We fiesta-ed until about midnight; it was late but we got to sleep in the next day so it's okay! I fell asleep almost immediately because I was so tired, but Liz and Sam had a sleepover, which was a ton of fun.

Anyways, I'm having a wonderful time, and family, I love you even though you're getting lazy with the e-mails! :) I love everyone and thank you so much for all your prayers. We can all tell that they're working and that God is clearly present.

Part of the circle of love and still looking for her knickers,
Lindsey

PS Met a nice 12-year-old boy, he liked to bowl... but that's a story for a different time.
