Picures Report

Walking to where we will perform the mime. Watch out for
the grates, the jump up and bite. At least that is what Catie
told us.

Ashley, Matt Y., Lindsey, Liz and Matt H. perform the mime in our first
location.

Sarah R., Nathan, Kristi, Sarah P. and Danny perform the mime in a
second location.
In the bottom two pictures you can see a security guard that tried to
come over and stop us,
he thought Matt H. was is charge because he had the camera, so that
bought us time to finish.
In the bottom right, Jose Luis and Marlon joined us to help explain in
Spanish afterwards
(they are from Principe de Paz, where the first team visited).
Optional caption: While Jesus is dieing, Barney Fife calls for back-up.

Nathan, Sarah P. Kristen and Kristen's Tica Maria Fernada share with a
guy after the second mime.

Danny, Liz, Lynn, Kristi and Lindsey found someone who spoke english to
share with.
They figured that 5 on 1 were pretty good odds.

Eric prays with Alvaro. He
had just been fired that morning and stopped to watch the mime and
found hope in it.
Sarah P. even gave him her new Spanish Bible.

So how long is it going to take for that Mark guy to get out of the
airport, we finished our food already.

Yup (to quote from his vows), Mark finally made it to Costa Rica.
Catie was the first to kiss him, and there was a mad race to see who
would be second.
Matt Y. edged Danny by half the length of a minivan seat.
After spending more time apart than they ever have, do you think that
Mark can count his arriving as Catie's birthday present?
Costa Rica Day 5 – July 24, 2007
Today we all got to sleep in a little bit because we weren't going to
the schools. Instead we went to a park to do some street witnessing
like we did at Fusion. Both groups had a chance to do the mime. And
afterwards we would tag team with the Ticos from Principe de Paz so
they could translate for us. Today all of us saw the power of prayer
and how much it helped us.
Later in the day we wet to have lunch. The highlight of everyone's day
was when we saw the van pull up to the restaurant because Mark had
finally arrived!!!! We all rushed out to greet him and welcome him to
Costa Rica. We are all so excited to have him here with us.
After lunch we went to our host homes. Kristen's Tica and my Tica had
invited us to go to the carnival with them. When we had finally arrived
we found out that it wasn't open. So we had to move to plan B. They
took us to a park to have ice cream and do some shopping. I rode in a
taxi for the first time and yes, Randy, I didn't close the door too
hard... Haha... thanks for the advice!
At 7 we went to church with our families. Most of the music we didn't
understand but there were a few songs that we recognized and sang in
English.
Thanks for all of he letters. My cousin Kristi and I are currently in a
contest to see who can get the most. And Lindsey and I are still
asking... "Can you see my knickers??"
Love you all,
Sarah R.
Today started off with a treat... a chance to sleep in. Well, at least
for most of us. My host family has a 14-month-old baby whose favorite
hour is 5 am. With a leisurely start to the day, we met at the church
and headed to Plaza de la Cultura to do the mime since we didn't have
any schools scheduled for the day. It was REALLY hot out with not too
much shade to be found, but everyone made the best of it (even in all
black clothes for the mime!) and Sharon and I found a bench where we
camped out with everyone's backpacks and purses. We laughed a lot about
the fact that neither of us knew what we would do if someone tried to
run off with them... You know me and Sharon... Neither of us look very
threatening. We also decided that the Spanish word for "help" was
"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!" I must confess that all of this time I wasn't able
to concentrate very well or sit still because I was thinking far
too much about Mark arriving at noon!! :)
After doing the mime a couple times, we all piled back in the vans and
headed for Rosti Pollo near the airport. We dropped everyone off for
lunch and Eric and I headed for the airport to pick up Mark. The pick
up experience at the San Jose airport is very different than O'hare...
You aren't allowed inside at all, so everyone camps out around these
windows with signs and everyone pushes on you to get close to the
windows. After about 45 minutes of that, I was getting closter phobic
so I had to get some air. Soon after I collected myself and pushed my
way back to Eric and a couple minutes later we saw Mark and waved to
him! I was sooooooooooo happy to see him!! It was the longest we have
ever spent apart and the first time in 3 years that we haven't talked
every day. Eric tells me it's not that long, but I'm not used to it! We
joined the group at Rosti Pollo, and Matt Yager wanted to be sure to
give the second kiss to Mark. I'm pretty sure he and Danny were
fighting over it...
We drove to the mall and spent some time writing thank you notes to
supporters. Then we went back to our host homes for the afternoon. Mark
was happy to see a bed since he had been awake since 2 am and I was
bummed out to discover that Aaron, the 14 month old at my house, likes
Mark a lot more than me!! They made us a nice steak dinner (too bad we
just ate lunch... I am going to gain 20 lbs on this trip!) and then
Mark went to bed early. Everyone else went to the Tuesday evening
church service, but at our house we all stayed home to rest. I caught
up on journaling and practiced my very limited Spanish on Michael and
Andrea. We have done a lot of laughing at each other this week since
neither of us speaks the other's language. Well, I better stop this
very long story because you are probably tired of reading.
Thank you for your prayers and for taking the time to keep up with us.
Love,
Catie
P.S. By the way, I saw a 2 liter of Coke at the grocery store and had a
blonde moment. I exclaimed over the fact that Coke came in liters down
here and asked Eric how that was different from the States. He gave me
a blank look and said, "You mean how are 2 liters different from 2
liters???" I immediately realized my stupidity and we laughed hard for
a while. To my defense, the bottles are a totally different shape!! LOL.
