July 20
Picures Report

Thursday evening we gathered at church to pray and send the team
off.

Yes, you are reading that correclty, we were at the airport before 3am
Mountain time,
we actually gat there just before 4am CDT.

We were really awake. Kristi was one of the few who joined me in
not getting Starbucks. I think that it showed.

Houston, we have a problem.
Here Kristen, sarah P, Lindsey, Danny and Matt H. wait at the gate for
the plane that we were hoping to be able to board,
and some of us went on that flight.....the next day.

Continental was really nice to put us up in a hotel and give us food
vouchers. Here is the girls' room.

Jim and Sharon suffering and celebrating their 25th anniversary
while we are stuck in Houston.
Houston Day 1 – July 20, 2007
Wow! What a Day!!! So to start off, we wake up at the hotel
around 2:30am to get to the airport bright and early so we can stand in
line for like an hour. We got through security fast enough for
everyone to get Starbuck’s and then run to the plane!
Literally! Run!
The first flight went smoothly, but we had to land in Louisiana to
refuel and there was bad weather in Houston so we couldn’t land there
for our lay over. The stop in Louisiana seemed like it went by
pretty quick even though it was over an hour and then we headed off for
Houston for our layover, where once again we had to run to our plane
across the airport and because of the stop in Louisiana, we missed the
plane headed to Costa Rica from Houston. That’s when things got
complicated, so Eric and Catie talked with people in charge at the
airport. While they did that the rest of us laid down by the
terminal for about two hours playing catch phrase and making jewelry
out of duct tape…and getting funny looks from people because we had
matching shirts. But the strange looks got stranger when Eric and
Catie told us that we had to stay overnight in Houston to fly out on
Saturday and we all got really excited and sort of freaked outJ.
The airlines paid for everyone to stay at the Marriot in Houston and
for each of us to get $26 of food wherever would accept the
certificates that they gave us.
This was quite the eventful day, and it seemed like the day went on and
on. We all felt like we were eating a late dinner when we were
really eating lunch at about 2pm. Then most of us went to the
mall for about half an hour. After the mall, some people crashed
in their rooms until dinner at 7:30, or when I got woken up by Danny
banging on our door – I actually corrected him and said, “Don’t you
mean breakfast?” because we had been up so long and then we went to
bed, I actually thought Lindsey and I had slept all night and it was 7
in the morning.
While we ate our Chinese dinner we had a meeting, and it was so cool to
realize that we dealt with the situation well. Nobody had bad
attitudes towards the free food and free night in Houston. We all
realized that for some reason God made this situation part of our trip,
just He knew about it and we didn’t have a clue until it
happened. We all had faith in God and trusted Him that for
whatever reason this happened, it was His will and good will come out
of it. We all totally could have been upset that we missed a full
day and night in Costa Rica but instead we made the best out of what
God had prepared for us…like some extra sleep that we all needed a lot!
And the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in! I felt like
I was in a cloud!
So this was quite the fun filled day…even though we we’re not in Costa
Rica yet!
Love you all!
